  I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering at Urmia University of Technology and am supervising and managing research for MSc students. During my career I have authored and co-authored over thirty peer-reviewed research articles published in the leading engineering journals and prominent conferences. I have also successfully co-authored two peer-reviewed books about structural stability published by SUT press. I was a member of scientific committee of the 4th national conference on spatial structures. I am frequently invited to judge the work of others in my field by high-status journals and conferences. I am also frequently invited to give a lecture in the field of space structures. In 2008, 2009 and 2011, I won the best student and best researcher awards of the Sahand University of Technology. In 2011, I was also awarded the Active Researcher prize of East Azarbaijan province.

  EXPERIENCES AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  2013-Now:

  Teaching various courses to BSc & MSc students of UUT, e.g.:

  1- Stability Theory of Structures;

  2- Finite Element Procedures;

  2014:

  A member of scientific committee of the 4th national conference on spatial structures

  2007-2011:

  Teaching support for Stability Theory of Structures to the MSc students of Sahand University of Technology.

  Supervision support for more than five MSc dissertations in the field of space structures in Sahand University of Technology.

  2009-2011:

  Performing Experimental Studies on Space Structures in structural laboratory of SUT and Safira Company. These included:

  Overcoming important problems of the construction process of tensegrity systems. To do as, special connection type was designed for cable elements and precise jigs and platform were developed to construct and assemble of the systems.

  Self-stress implementation of tensegrity systems. Experimental study on two 3 × 3 × 0.7 m tensegrity grids was conducted to verify the accuracy and validity of the numerical method.

  Tests on the constituent elements which includes tensile test of the cable elements, tensile test of the tubes used in the struts and buckling test of the struts.

  Collapse tests on tensegrity systems:

  1- Full progressive collapse test on an experimental model: The model was loaded up to a load level at which buckling of a strut led to successive buckling of struts causing overall collapse.

  2- Evaluating the effect of sudden loss of a cable element at a specified load level on the behavior of an experimental model.

  3- Partial progressive collapse test on an experimental model. The model was designed in such a way to exhibit partial progressive collapse due to member snap.

  4- Evaluating the effects of imperfection amplitude, damping factors and residual stress of the buckled struts on the progressive collapse of tensegrity systems

  2013-2014:

  Executive Director of Iranian Institute of Spatial Structures

  2009-Now:

  Professional designer of modern space structures. This requires proficiency in some softwares including Formian, SAP 2000, Abaqus and etc.

  2008:

  Cooperation in Iranian Maritime Pipeline Design Guideline, Ministry of Road and Transportation, Transportation Research Institute;

   Expert in computer programming. The following codes have been developed in Fortran and Matlab languages.

   Static analysis of cylindrical shells considering both geometric and material nonlinearities.

   Self-stress design of tensegrity systems.

   Expert in nonlinear finite element software packages such as ANSYS and ABAQUS.

   Expert in electronic library skills and online resources;

   Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) – Advanced level use for dissertation and PhD research;

  My Principal research interests lie in the field of Structural Stability and Structural Dynamics. These are:

  •   Stability behavior of space structures;
  •   Progressive collapse analysis of steel structures;
  •   Experimental and numerical studies on the static and dynamic behavior of steel structures
  •   Self-stress design, static and dynamic analysis of tensegrity systems;
  •   Structural behavior of CFST and CFDST columns

WRITTEN BOOKS:

Stability Analysis of Space Structures , By: K. Abedi and B. Shekasteband, 2010 in Persian.

  This book serves both as a textbook for postgraduate courses on stability analysis of space structures and a reference volume for engineers and scientists. We included some original derivations as well as many new research results not yet published in periodicals. The contents of this book contains fundamental of stability theory, different class of the instability phenomenon in space structures, static collapse analysis considering the nodal snap-through, static collapse analysis considering the member buckling phenomenon, dynamic collapse analysis considering dynamic propagation of a local nodal snap-through and member snap.

Fundamental of Structural Stability , By: K. Abedi and B. Shekasteband, 2015 in Persian.

  The material contained in this text is ideally suited for postgraduate students in Civil, Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering. The topics presented in the text pertain to various aspects of elastic buckling and inelastic instability. The emphasis of the book is on the fundamental concepts and on the methodology developed through the years to solve structural stability problems. The book contains a detailed treatment of the different class of the instability phenomenon, elastic and inelastic stability analysis of columns, beams, beam-columns, frames, arches, plates and shells.
